Community Life at Resolute: 2021-Q4 Highlights

Resolute is focused on building mutually beneficial relationships in the communities in which we live and work. We demonstrate this commitment through transparency, information-sharing and active involvement in community life. Here are some highlights from the fourth quarter of 2021.

Sparking curiosity to support education

Resolute employees enjoy the opportunity to connect with students and young people in their communities. Employees from our Glenwood (Arkansas) sawmill presented career opportunities to high school seniors during Manufacturing Showcase Day at National Park College, the team at our Clermont (Quebec) newsprint mill welcomed students from the pulp and paper diploma program at Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup for a tour of the facility, and students in the industrial electronics technology program at Cégep de Baie-Comeau toured our Outardes (Quebec) sawmill. Between them, the Sanford tissue mill and Cross City sawmill in Florida presented nine students with grants and scholarships of $500 each, and the Thunder Bay (Ontario) sawmill contributed $25,000 to the Lac des Mille Lacs Education Centre, an innovative, Indigenous-led school focused on experiential learning, Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) language instruction and hockey.

Sharing our successes

Achieving safety milestones or a 75% COVID-19 vaccination rate allowed employees to donate considerable sums to worthy organizations through Resolute’s incentive programs. Here are just a few examples: The Thunder Bay sawmill donated $10,000 to the Boys and Girls Club; the Outaouais (Quebec) woodlands operations gave $5,000 to a center supporting young families; Atikokan (Ontario) sawmill and Hialeah (Florida) tissue mill employees donated $5,000 and $10,000, respectively, to local hospitals; and employees from the Alma (Quebec) paper mill distributed a total of $25,000 among ten community organizations.

Coming together to raise funds

A donation-matching initiative organized by our Thunder Bay pulp and paper mill raised $10,000 for the Our Hearts at Home Cardiovascular Campaign. In Quebec, a group of 100 employees from our Saint-Félicien sawmill participated in a weekly pizza sale to raise funds for local organizations, while 280 employees from our Alma mill raised $6,900 for a food drive by selling used materials from the facility.

Paying it forward

Our Calhoun (Tennessee) operations donated 800 cases of bath tissue and paper towels to Operation Compassion, while our Hialeah mill provided 96 cases of bath tissue to the Salvation Army and our Atikokan sawmill provided wood for a local parade. Additionally, a number of company operations donated money and Christmas presents to families in need: employees from our Coosa Pines (Alabama) pulp mill donated 40 gifts to foster children through Talladega County’s Angel Tree toy drive; employees from our Calhoun mill helped distribute 350 Christmas baskets through Calhoun Goodfellows; and our Cross City sawmill provided 27 gifts to Toys for Tots.

Connecting with our communities

A team at our Thunder Bay mill held a roundtable discussion with provincial representative Andrea Horvath, leader of Ontario’s Official Opposition; the El Dorado (Arkansas) sawmill welcomed Congressman Bruce Westerman, a registered forester, for a tour of the operation; and a special lunch was held at our Glenwood sawmill to recognize the 20 military veterans who work at the facility.

Resolute strives to be a positive presence in our operating communities. Our employees are instrumental in that effort, admirably representing the company in countless ways and inspiring us daily.
