Resolute Proud Sponsor of Special Olympics Canada 2020 Winter Games

On February 25, over 1,200 athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff from across Canada will gather in Thunder Bay (Ontario) to attend the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics Canada 2020 Winter Games. The week-long event celebrates the transformative power and joy of sport.

Resolute is a gold-level sponsor of the week-long competition, and 40 employees from our Northwestern Ontario operations signed up as volunteers for Resolute-sponsored initiatives, including the Airport Welcome for athletes, their families and coaches; the 2020 Games Cauldron Tour; and the Celebration Dance, which honored all athletes at the close of the Games.

“Resolute is proud to support Special Olympics Canada, and our employees are excited to play a part in this national event,” stated Yves Laflamme, president and chief executive officer. “At Resolute, teamwork starts with a winning attitude and a true desire to support each other. We salute the Games’ organizing committee, the dedicated athletes and our employee volunteers. Let the games begin.”

The Winter Games cover eight sporting competitions around Thunder Bay: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, floor hockey, snowshoeing, speed skating and five-pin bowling. These national games determine which athletes will join Team Canada at the Special Olympics World Winter Games.

Resolute is committed to supporting the needs and interests of the communities where we operate. We have contributed C$35,000 toward the Special Olympics Canada 2020 Winter Games. In 2019, our donations and sponsorships to community health and environmental organizations and initiatives totaled over US$1.2 million.
