Resolute is focused on building mutually beneficial relationships in the communities in which we live and work. We demonstrate this commitment through transparency, information-sharing and active involvement in community life.
Good neighbors
Being part of a community means helping where you can. Our Calhoun (Tennessee) employees picked up several hundred pounds of garbage along West Chickamauga Creek as part of the 2022 Tennessee River Rescue, a massive cleanup of over 20 sites spanning four counties.
Reaching out to potential employees, our Gatineau (Quebec) team began work with Option Femmes, an organization that promotes economic autonomy of women and supports the development of women in industry. At our Cross City (Florida) sawmill, employees hosted a career day for high school students, providing them first-hand knowledge on working in wood products manufacturing.
Helping those in need
When disaster strikes, the need for help grows quickly. After September’s Hurricane Ian, Calhoun donated 1,200 cases of bath tissue and paper towels to Operation Compassion. Many of our operating communities have ongoing needs. That’s why employees at our Menominee (Michigan) mill volunteered at the Back Pack Program, an initiative that delivers food to disadvantaged students.
Other operations raised funds and made donations to support their communities. Our Dolbeau (Quebec) mill donated $3,500 to the Fondation Pénélope Bouchard, a charity that supports sick children and their families, our Alma (Quebec) mill gave two donations – $3,500 to a food drive organized by the local Saint-Vincent de Paul, and $3,530 to the Fondation Hôtel-Dieu d’Alma, and Hydro-Saguenay (Quebec), our hydroelectric generation and transmission network, contributed $1,000 to La Soupière de Jonquière, a local soup kitchen.
The holiday spirit
December saw several holiday-themed initiatives. Resolute’s Côte-Nord (Quebec) woodlands donated and delivered large decorative Christmas trees to local parks, the Gatineau mill donated $3,000 to Le Noël Cogeco, an initiative that provides new and warm clothing to children in need, and the Calhoun mill distributed some 280 Christmas baskets and gifts to foster children and low-income families.
Strengthening communities
Some initiatives found ways to strengthen our communities by building them up. The Saint-Félicien (Quebec) mill donated $3,000 to the Société de développement économique ilnu de Mashteuiatsh, which supports female Indigenous entrepreneurs. The Cross City sawmill gave $1,800 to Voices for Children, an organization that supports foster children, and $3,000 to the Dixie Education Foundation, which provides scholarships to graduating high school students. And the Menominee mill contributed $4,000 to 10 local volunteer fire departments.
Employees from other Resolute operations volunteered their time in support of their communities. Lac-Saint-Jean (Quebec) woodlands employees attended an awareness workshop on Pekuakamiulnuatsh First Nation culture, and the Senneterre (Quebec) sawmill’s welcoming committee provided a city tour to its new Filipino employees.
For the love of sport
Teams and communities come together in Q4 at several sports-related fundraisers. Employees from Montreal head office sponsored one of 40 teams who take turns portaging a canoe 700 km (435 miles) between Toronto and Montréal as part of Le Grand Portage.. Resolute contributed $5,000 to the effort that supports multiple sclerosis (MS) research at the Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital and CHUM-Université de Montréal. And Hydro-Saguenay provided BC AGIT with $1,000 for new running shoes for youth in need.
