Community Life at Resolute: 2022-Q1 Highlights

Resolute is focused on building mutually beneficial relationships in the communities in which we live and work. We demonstrate this commitment through transparency, information-sharing and active involvement in community life. Here are some highlights from the first quarter of 2022.

Partnering with Indigenous communities

Youth engagement and employment opportunities were on the agenda for a meeting between Fort William First Nation and staff from our Ontario woodlands operations. Employees from Côte-Nord (Quebec) woodlands helped organize youth activities through the InnuRassemble committee and also took part in a concert bringing together Indigenous youth from the community. Saint-Félicien (Quebec) sawmill employees attended the Women’s Entrepreneurial Gala at Pekuakamiulnuatsh First Nation (Mashteuiatsh).

Hands-on support in our operating communities

Employees from the Normandin (Quebec) planer mill worked with Accès-Travail-Femmes to improve support for women in the workplace, while staff from our Atikokan (Ontario) sawmill participated in two recruitment events at the local Adult Learning Centre. Employees from our Saint-Prime (Quebec) engineered wood facility volunteered at Café-Jeunesse and a suicide prevention center, and a group from the Menominee (Michigan) pulp mill helped organize a fundraiser for the Pete and Elaine Lesperance Foundation, an organization that helps cancer patients. Staff from Ontario woodlands collected socks and gloves for the Toasty Toes Sock Drive at Shelter House, and an employee from the Grenada (Mississippi) newsprint mill volunteered as a first responder firefighter and supported a community mission by helping to distribute food.

Paying it forward

Our Sanford (Florida) tissue mill donated 60 cases of bath tissue and 41 cases of paper towels to Restore Global, an organization that helps non-profits maximize their impact, while the Château-Richer (Quebec) remanufactured wood products facility donated lumber to an elementary school for children with special needs. The Dolbeau (Quebec) paper mill donated $2,000 to Centraide Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean as well as new books to Maison Halte Secours; our Coosa Pines (Alabama) pulp mill provided four sponsorships totaling $3,325 to local organizations, including The Tiger Sports Network and youth softball teams; the Gatineau (Quebec) newsprint mill supported Forces Avenir, a foundation that promotes student engagement in community projects, with a $5,750 sponsorship; and the Glenwood (Arkansas) sawmill awarded two $1,000 college scholarships to local high school students.
