Resolute’s Menominee Pulp Mill Surpasses 1.75M Hours Injury-Free

Menominee Pulp Mill

Employees at our Menominee (Michigan) recycled pulp mill proudly presented checks to the Johnson Controls Backpack program and the Menominee Police Department’s canine (K9) unit at a ceremony held last week at the facility. Employees earned $15,000 of prize money through Resolute’s Board of Directors Safety Award program for achieving 1.75 million consecutive hours of work without a single recordable injury. Employees reached the milestone on August 31, 2021, after eight and a half years of working safely.

Resolute President and Chief Executive Officer Remi G. Lalonde was joined by Police Captain Justin Hofer; Backpack Program Volunteer Maggie Faccio, as well as fellow company executives and mill management and employees.

“We recognize our employees’ significant health and safety efforts by celebrating them and their achievements,” said Lalonde. “Employees share the award with their communities by choosing the benefactors themselves, which makes it special and meaningful, particularly in the context of the pandemic. We are very proud of our Menominee mill employees for reaching this remarkable milestone.”

Employees chose to donate $10,000 to the Johnson Controls backpack program, managed by the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, to meet the nutritional needs of more than 200 school-aged children every week. A donation of $5,000 was also made to the Menominee Police Department’s canine (K9) unit, which assists in searches for missing persons and drug investigations; provides demonstrations at local schools and community events; and supports other area law enforcement agencies.

“The Johnson Controls Backpack Program is a year-long program that gives bags of food to school children for their weekend meals,” said Faccio. “Some children in the area only have the opportunity to eat at school, and hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation or a break on weekends. Your generosity allows us to address increased needs.”

“Please accept our heartfelt appreciation and thanks for your $5,000 donation to assist us with our K9 unit program, which is typically funded by donations,” said Hofer. “Resolute’s contribution will help us sustain a program that is instrumental in many areas of police work because canines extend police department capabilities.”

Resolute is committed to supporting the needs and interests of the communities where it operates. The company’s Board of Directors Safety Award program supports community and charitable organizations selected by employees for every 250,000 hours achieved without a recordable injury. More than $2.5 million has been donated to local organizations in the company’s operating communities since 2010 as part of this program.

Congratulations to our team at Menominee for your dedication to working safely!
