Saint-Thomas and Saint-Félicien sawmills intern Gabrielle Gauthier’s first blogpost
Hi all,
I’d like to take this first blogpost to tell you a little bit about myself. I’m 21 years old and currently studying industrial relations at Laval University. I start the last year of my bachelor’s degree in the fall. I consider myself determined and independent. I’m passionate about all aspects of human resources, and every day my internship confirms that I’ve made the right career choice. Having a flair for communication and a natural sense of leadership, I love taking on challenges of all kinds, and my chosen profession will no doubt satisfy this thirst.
More than seven weeks has gone by since the start of my internship at Resolute Forest Products. It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to work for a major forest products company that has been a shining star in the Lac-Saint-Jean region for more than 200 years. It’s where I was born, so I was more than happy to come back for a summer to do my bit for a business where you can work safely while furthering your own development and contributing to the success of the company. Ensuring everyone’s involvement, health and safety, and sustainable development are among the most important values at Resolute, and that is what motivated me to do an internship here.

Since my arrival, I’ve held the position of Human Resources intern at two facilities: the Saint-Thomas sawmill and the Saint-Félicien sawmill. I’ve had the opportunity to take part in the staffing process at both, I’ve taken part in several union meetings, I’ve made field visits to the sawmills, I’ve been involved in occupational health and safety and I’ve also carried out several human resources mandates (training, employee development, recruitment, application of disciplinary measures, etc.). I’m sure the next nine weeks will be just as enriching and will allow me to gain even more experience that builds on my university education.
In the coming weeks until the end of my internship, I’ll be sharing my experiences with you and I hope to pique your interest in the forest products industry.
Until next time, cheers!
Gabrielle Gauthier
