Resolute is a proud sponsor of Design Day, an annual student design competition organized by the University of Ottawa’s Centre for Entrepreneurship and Engineering Design.
Design Day took place on November 28, bringing together 60 teams of 5 students to propose new and innovative solutions for a variety of design challenges. The event was the culmination of many months of work and preparation, during which students put into practice the methods and theories they have been learning in lectures. Many of the solutions were designed to help local organizations, including Ottawa’s Saint-Vincent Hospital. For example, the winning team in the accessibility category designed a thumb-aiding device to enable the full functionality of a patient’s thumb, while the runner-up created a digital code for providing uninterrupted wifi service to hospital clients.
David Marshall, Resolute’s project manager of Sustainability and Public Affairs, attended Design Day and was impressed with the students’ dedication and inventiveness: “Resolute provides substantial financial support to universities and colleges, and our corporate philanthropy is focused on education. It was exciting to see how our contributions help students hone their skills to create innovative solutions for real-world challenges.”
Resolute has long supported the University of Ottawa through a $176,000 endowment fund that supports mechanical and design engineering programs, as well as student competitions. For the 2019-20 academic year, $36,000 was earmarked from this fund to support two Design Day competitions.
Congratulations to all Design Day participants!
