Resolute’s Coosa Pines mill recognized for superior 2017 worker safety performance

In March 2018, our Coosa Pines pulp mill was honored by the Alabama Department of Labor and Manufacture Alabama for its superior 2017 worker safety performance. The recognition is given to mills that operated the most hours with the fewest incidents. This is the third consecutive year Coosa Pines has been recognized at the Safety Achievement Awards, and the second time it has taken top honors.

While 28 facilities were recognized among the 57 that participated, it was Resolute’s moment to shine, finishing first overall in the paper manufacturing category for facilities with 251 to 500 employees. The Alabama Department of Labor also presented Coosa Pines with a certificate signed by the Governor Kay Ivey for completing 2017 with no lost-time accidents. The honors reflect company-wide efforts to improve Occupational Safety and Health Administration and injury severity rates, which were reduced to all-time lows in 2017, 0.66 and 18.25 respectively. Resolute’s long-term goal remains zero injuries.

Located on Alabama’s Coosa River, the Coosa Pines mill produces fluff pulp that is used worldwide in tissue and absorbent consumer products. Since 2010, $42 million in capital investments have been made into the operation, which in addition to meeting stringent health and safety requirements, is certified to the ISO 14001 environmental management standard.

Manufacture Alabama is the state’s manufacturing trade association. The organization partners annually with the Alabama Department of Labor to recognize exceptional safety achievements in the state.

Health and safety are key performance indicators of Resolute’s sustainability strategy, and we are proud that our public commitments in this regard are receiving recognition from authorities in the regions where we operate.
