How forests impact the carbon balance

The 26th edition of The State of Canada’s Forests: Annual Report 2016 provides a national snapshot of Canada’s forests and forest industry.  With a focus on sustainable forest management, the report describes Canada’s rich forest resources and our success in managing them sustainably.

In discussions about climate change, we often hear about the carbon cycle, but what exactly is it?

It is the movement of carbon from land and water through the atmosphere and all living things. Trees and forests play a crucial role in this dynamic process – constantly storing and releasing carbon into the atmosphere and soil, as a way of helping to restore the Earth’s carbon balance.
