For the second year in a row, Canadian National Railway (CN) has recognized Resolute Forest Products as an EcoConnexions partner.
The 2017 CN EcoConnexions Partnership award recognizes our shared commitment to preserving and protecting the environment. The Partnership Awards are given annually to CN customers who are working to reduce carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency across their supply chains through energy efficiency and carbon reduction programs, sustainability policies, public reporting to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), and through their modal shift to rail.
CN will plant 100,000 trees across Canada this spring to recognize the sustainable business practices of its EcoConnexions partners.
Resolute committed to reducing our carbon footprint
In 2016, Resolute reduced our absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 73% over a year 2000 baseline. We also sourced 74% of our total energy needs from renewable sources and derived 80% of our fuel energy usage from biomass. Our success stems from focusing on improving our energy efficiency and replacing high-emission fuels like coal with less carbon-intensive fuels, which benefits both the environment and our bottom line.
Each year, Resolute depends on CN to transport our products safely and sustainably by rail to customers spread across North America and to shipping hubs where barges carry the loads to international customers.
