Resolute’s leadership in reducing our carbon footprint has been selected for recognition by a group of our international business peers – with a goal of sharing best practices in carbon reduction and reporting, which other organizations can use to enhance their environmental credentials and financial bottom line.
Resolute won two Peer Awards for Excellence in Corporate Responsibility in the sustainability category, as well as an Industry Sector Award in the manufacturing category. These awards honor our success in reducing our absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 73% over 2000 levels in 2016, and the comprehensiveness and transparency of our carbon reporting.
Our peers were particularly impressed with how Resolute’s investments in innovative energy efficiency projects and products have not only benefited the environment and our bottom line, but positioned our company as an industry leader and sought-after partner of governments and non-governmental organizations.
For example, in July of 2016, Resolute was invited by Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change and by the Governor of the Bank of England to become an inaugural Canadian member of the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition, a key aspect of Canada’s contribution to meeting the international carbon pricing commitment launched at COP21 in Paris.
In commenting on Resolute’s sustainability leadership, one peer judge said: “I was particularly impressed by the reductions you have made and the financial benefit that has been tied up in becoming more sustainable. This shows the two-fold benefits of a concerted effort to minimise emissions in energy-heavy industry, which can be an inspiration for others to follow.” Rachel Eames, Marketing Officer, DBS Law
