Join the Boreal Forum Online Conversation
On February 10th, Resolute’s Boreal Forum initiative continued with a town hall discussion in Ignace Ontario, once again hosted by Resolute Forest Products’ President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Garneau. The discussion followed similar events held in Thunder Bay and Atikokan (Ontario) in late November of last year and in Quebec regions over the past 18 months.
With U.S. housing starts and GDP on the rise, increased demand for our products will surely follow. And we’ve made considerable investments – C$90 million worth – in Northwestern Ontario to make sure we can capitalize on the upswing. But our ability to do so may be in jeopardy.
Ontario’s forests are under increasingly competing pressures – changing government policies and forest management regimes, changing markets, and of course, environmental activists. These French and English forums provide for fact-based discussions concerning sustainable forestry practices and they help to ensure that individual and community voices are heard, particularly when it comes to the importance of forestry to Northern economies.
