Ten temporary employees at Resolute’s Outardes sawmill, located in Quebec’s Côte-Nord region, received 14 weeks of customized training beginning last March to improve their skills. The training was provided for 32 hours a week, while employees completed their regular work week.
“The objective of the training was to improve the employees’ knowledge and understanding of the transformation of raw material, the manufacturing process, operating techniques and the optimization of our manufacturing processes. It also helped secure the jobs of the ten workers,” explained Mario Bélanger, sawmill manager.
With support from the Estuaire school commission and the Outardes sawmill employees who served as trainers, the program was a great success.
