Resolute’s Thunder Bay (Ontario) pulp and paper mill is proud to contribute $15,000 to the Special Olympics Canada 2020 Winter Games, as sponsor of the closing ceremony. The Games will be held in Thunder Bay from February 25-29, 2020, and will cover eight sports competitions: alpine skiing, five-pin bowling, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, floor hockey, snowshoeing and speed skating. Over 1,200 athletes, coaches, managers and staff from across Canada are expected to participate.
Robert Dufresne, Resolute’s vice president, Operations – Pulp and Paper, formally presented the cheque to Louisa Constanzo, games manager, Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Thunder Bay 2020, at the mill earlier today.
“At Resolute, teamwork starts with a winning attitude and a true desire to support each other. Our community outreach strategy takes many forms, including financial and material support, as well as countless volunteer hours by our employees. We salute the Games’ organizing committee, and look forward to sponsoring the closing ceremony,” stated Dufresne.
“Our employees are very proud to play a part in such a wonderful national event, and we are pleased to see the Games come to the beautiful city of Thunder Bay,” commented John Poirier, general manager of the Thunder Bay mill. Many employees will have the opportunity to participate as volunteers in the planning process, as well as in several events such as the opening, closing and awards ceremonies.
Established in 1969, Special Olympics Canada is dedicated to enriching the lives of Canadians with an intellectual disability through the transformative power and joy of sport. The organization’s flagship National Games take place every two years, alternating between summer and winter. These national games are the qualifying event for athletes to become members of Team Canada attending the Special Olympics World Winter Games.
