New Initiative to Phase Out Single-use Plastic Bottles at Resolute

Given the environmental impact associated with the manufacture, transportation and use of plastic bottles, Resolute has launched an initiative to phase out the purchase and distribution of single-use plastic bottles across all its offices and facilities.

On August 23, 2018, Resolute management issued a directive regarding the elimination of single-use plastic bottles of water and rehydration drinks. This initiative will eliminate 1.7 million plastic bottles used annually at Resolute that might otherwise end up in landfills.

We want to promote the use of reusable bottles that can be filled from water coolers or from water fountains connected to municipal water supply systems, and will ensure employees have access to cool water.

Water bottles are among the most frequent single-use plastic waste items. Fewer than 50% of plastic water bottles are collected for recycling, and fewer than 7% of bottles are actually recycled. The rest is disposed of in landfills, oceans and waterways, and is detrimental to the health of humans, animals and marine wildlife. According to the United Nations Environment Assembly, more than 8 million metric tons of plastic are disposed of in oceans every year.

This initiative will be implemented over the course of the coming year to ensure a smooth transition at all Resolute facilities. Resolute employees are doing their part for the environment.
