FSC & Resolute Next Steps

Last week we took an important step in our continuing effort to regain our Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certifications. In case you’re new to the issue, the FSC is an organization that sets standards for how companies like ours work in and protect the forest, its wildlife and its people. Resolute has been, and remains today, a supporter of FSC certification standards, both in terms of sustainable forest management certification and chain of custody certification. In fact, we remain one of the largest holders of FSC certificates in North America. Resolute has also gone above and beyond complying with government approved harvest plans, regulations and recovery plans for species at risk, and we have third-party certified 100% of its managed woodlands to at least one of three internationally recognized sustainable forest management standards.

Earlier today, the Alliance Forêt Boréale (Boreal Forest Alliance) issued a press release calling on the Government of Quebec to form a working group comprised of local and provincial government officials and FSC representatives to better understand all aspects of FSC certification and the path to restoring recently suspended regional FSC certificates, as well as to address ongoing misinformation spread by certain activist groups. We wholeheartedly support this effort!.

But the bottom line is we need a constructive dialogue of all stakeholders to take steps to address the real impact recent events have had on workers in the region and the prosperity of northern communities, which rely heavily on the health of the forest products industry.

  2. Resolute supports FSC and is committed to the long-term health of the forest and the people who rely on it for their living.
  3. We’re committed to being open and transparent with how we do business.
